Amanda Langley PhotoIt is with great pleasure that we announce MaineShare’s new permanent director has been hired!  Amanda Langley, MPH, will be joining the MaineShare staff during the week of October 18th.  We had an amazingly talented pool of applicants and Amanda’s commitment to social justice, curious mind-set, collaborative nature, and wicked smahts will serve us all well. We thank all of you who applied for the position and participated wholeheartedly in our process.  Maine has some incredibly committed and talented people! 

Amanda will be joining us as soon as she concludes her current role as the Community-Based Education Manager for the University of New England, College of Dental Medicine.  

Amanda grew up in Falmouth, ME and has a background in public health, academia, and is a life-long social justice warrior.  Amanda is committed to improving conditions for vulnerable populations, actively exploring equity issues, and she is thrilled for this opportunity to lead MaineShare into its next chapter!

After graduating from Quinnipiac University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, she worked as a Care Manager with the Connecticut Homecare Program for Elders. In 2013, she returned home to Maine, and in 2014, she began working with Graduate Admissions at the University of New England, coordinating the admissions for UNE’s DMD program. She joined the College of Dental Medicine (CDM) in 2016 as Community Outreach Coordinator and earned her Master of Public Health degree in December 2016.  She was promoted to Community-Based Education Manager at UNE CDM in 2018. While completing her Master’s program, Amanda participated in an interprofessional health service trip to Ghana, providing free medical care to patients for two weeks. She also completed an interprofessional research project on rural healthcare for the elderly. She has volunteered as a bereavement facilitator at The Center for Grieving Children and Maine Needs. She is a member of Delta Omega, a public health honor society, and the Maine Public Health Association, where she is a co-lead of the Member Subsection on Vulnerable Populations.  She is an adjunct faculty member in the College of Dental Medicine as well as the UNE College of Arts and Sciences sociology department.  Her extracurricular interests are skiing, mountain biking, and gardening and flowers.

30+1 Anniversary Hike & Bike

Thirty plus one years ago, MaineShare was launched by several individuals and organizations dedicated to funding grassroots organizations who were advocating for a better Maine.  On October 21st, we will gather to honor MaineShare’s incredible roots and history and celebrate its bright future.

To help ensure this bright future, we are bringing back MaineShare’s Annual Hike & Bike event with a goal of raising $5,000.  

Here’s how it works!

Option 1:  Gather your family and/or friends, come up with a good team name, and then have some fun outside.  Take pictures and post them to your social media with the hashtags #MaineShare  / #HikeAndBike.  And don’t forget to urge them to donate & mention your team name!

On October 21st, MaineShare and friends will gather at Viles Arboretum to honor our past and celebrate our very bright future!

We hope you will join us.  

We are deep in planning mode, but you can expect strict adherence to the best COVID guidance, chances to get outside and experience some of what Maine has to offer, a short business meeting, and some exciting announcements.  And of course, plenty of food, drinks, and great company.

We are also tying this into a 30+1 Hike & Bike / Get Outside for Maine FundraiserCheck it out and plan to enjoy the great outdoors for a great cause (or 40)!
